Squeegee “kids”- supplying a service no one wants or needs. Reminds me of my time in Bangkok, Thailand when I’d visit ancient temples- there’d usually be younger street kids hanging around who’d proceed to walk everywhere on the grounds in front of foreigners and ridiculously point at huge buildings as if you couldn’t and wouldn’t have seen them without their input. It was quite laughable and stupid really but at least they weren’t violent and aggressive. They just wanted money for nothing. Essentially beggars pretending to offer a “service” for a “fee.” The squeegee “kids” are just an obnoxious and violent version of that and use their aggression and anger as a method of extortion.
In my town, we don’t have squeegee kids but sometimes there’ll be a group of black kids standing at intersections with plastic buckets with homemade signs on them trying to collect money for some (no doubt) fake charity, organization or “community purpose.” Predictably, when it would happen, they’d always go to the whitest area they could. However, I haven’t seen them in a long while as I think the police cracked down on that hustle/con job.
If I lived in Baltimore and had to put up with squeegee kids, I’d be tempted to print up realistic looking fake dollar bills to hand out to the little jerks. I wonder how long it would take them to notice that image on the dollar bills was of Mickey Mouse instead of George Washington?

I remember it well. Couldn’t understand why everybody, media, police, lawyers, all avoided like poison casting any light on the presence of the jig in the case. The obvious suspect. Only years later I learned that he had actually been convicted of some minor crime and jailed.

In addition to all that hard-for-them-to-swallow reality, on the off chance that the squeegee kids WERE white, they’d probably be a lot more polite and professional, and there’d be a lot less violence and crime. Any government that cannot enforce, or worse, has no borders fails to protect it’s citizens. It has to go! If not peacefully at the polls, it must go by force. That’s what history teaches. The French are unarmed, so their government does not fear them, but that can change.
More than a nuisance, they have demonstrated actual harm to people and property. Regrettably, the authorities have given up even though relatively few arrests would curtail and possibly end this problem.

The problem extends beyond race. At least the squeegee kids are pretending to offer a service. For those who’ve travelled in Mexico, they will know that curbside window washers and other vendors is a common thing. It’s also worth mentioning that the Mexicans tend to be much more civil. I’m sure crime does happen, but in many trips I never encountered it.
Regardless of the motives or honesty of such peddlers, America should not be a third world nation. Except in the most unusual cases, a pedestrian has no business even coming near an automobile, much less attempting a transaction. This is simply based on common sense: Pedestrians should not even be near the road or intersection unless they are waiting to cross or perhaps at a bus stop. Some places (apparently) legitimate charities conduct drives at intersections. Even that’s a bad idea for two reasons: Giving cash is ALWAYS a bad idea; there is no accountability for how it gets used; secondly, as I repeatedly state here, pedestrians have no business being in the roadway except when crossing the intersection.
Those who are panhandling should be arrested for vagrancy, panhandling, operating an unlicensed charity (yes, that’s really a charge) or simply posing a nuisance to drivers as well as putting themselves and other pedestrians in danger.
Some of them are probably so stupid they’d think Mickey WAS a past president!!
